Another NFL team made headlines Thursday night when the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons were on the field.
The Los Angeles Chargers have made the surprising decision to release their former first-round pick. The team announced the transfer from defensive lineman Jerry Tillery.
In a statement from general manager Tom Telesco, he said the move was “necessary.”
“Jerry has been a valuable member of our organization since he arrived in 2019 and we would like to thank him for all his contributions to the Chargers,” said general manager Tom Telesco. It wasn’t a decision, but after careful consideration, it was a necessary decision that was in the best interest of both the team and the players. We wish Jerry the best forward in his career.”
The Chargers declined his fifth-year option earlier this year and were supposed to make him a free agent after the season.
He will get the chance to join a new team when the 2022 season begins.
