The New Orleans Saints could get a big offensive boost soon.
according to Nick Underhill The Saints of New Orleans Football have named left tackle Trevor Penning back from the injured reserve. This will require the rookie to practice with the team for his 21 days before activating him.
Speaking to reporters via NOF on Thursday, Penning said he spent four weeks on a scooter and four in walking boots after undergoing surgery to place metal plates in his feet.
“I think I couldn’t really put my left shoe on, but other than that, it was good,” Penning said.
This year’s No. 19 pick has yet to make his NFL debut. Penning tore ligaments in his leg during the Saints’ final preseason game on August 26.
New Orleans hoped Penning would help an offensive line that gave up four sacks in a 27-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. With his 3-6 record, the Saints are in jeopardy of their first losing streak since 2016.
The designation means Penning needs to play immediately, but he probably won’t be ready for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
