Tim Connery clarified a bit that Karl-Anthony Towns has recovered from a severe calf strain during a local radio appearance on Tuesday.
The Timberwolves’ president of basketball operations told KFXN-100.3’s Dan Barreiro that the organization’s “full expectation” is the All-Star big man returning to the floor this season. Connery did not disclose a timetable for his return, but said it was “probably fair” to assume Towns would not return before the All-Star break of February 17-23.
Townes has been out since suffering a calf strain on November 28.
Connery told Barreiro, “I’ll tell you we’re uncertain, but he’s really moving in a positive direction.” Karl and I talk about it a lot. And he’s doing everything in his power. He’s really working at a very high level to speed up that process.”
Initially, it was reported that Towns would miss four to six weeks with the injury, but Connery noted that the team has adhered to an “indefinite” return date since the injury occurred.
“When a man gets hurt, all we care about is that he gets healthy,” Connery said. “I don’t care if it takes a day or a year. KAT A person as important as he is, a person who is the foundation of our organization, and we want him to be healthy.
Connery was out the night Towns suffered the injury and said the organization “feared the worst.” Everyone seemed to gasp when the injury was revealed to be a strain, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t serious. He has been absent since December 9th.
Connery credited people in the organization and Townes’ circles, most notably his agent Jess Holtz Steinberg, in helping Towns recover.
“We are aligned. When someone gets hurt, we want to make sure we do everything to make sure they come back as close to 100% as possible. stuff,” said Connery.
“We all want the same thing: to get him back to full health as soon as possible,” Connery added. “But he has to get completely healthy first.”
Connelly said the size of the 6-foot-11-inch center complicates injuries. He wants to get a second he opinion and a third he opinion for a player like Towns. Connery went with Townes to New York to pick up one of them. “There are no absolutes in medicine,” he said. “You want to get as many wise opinions as possible.”
Townes posted a photo of himself watching Sunday’s NFC Championship football game in walking boots. He hasn’t been to a Timberwolves home game in a while — Connery said the goal is to keep his leg in place in the meantime — but Towns and Connery will be playing Monday’s game from the Wolves’ locker room. We saw it together.
Connery said the recovery process wasn’t amazing, but it was “a circuitous” that featured many twists and turns.
“We know how important KAT is. He’s the foundation of the Timberwolves. He’s our man,” Connelly said. I’m not going to ask and do anything without understanding the logic behind it, which is great, especially when you’re dealing with an injury this serious.
“I think the plan we’re working on, and the plan we’ve been on from the beginning, is the right one. Be confident that you are.
